What is spiritual intelligence? How do we grow it? What are some signs that our spiritual intelligence is in distress? How does it impact our overall well-being?
Spiritual intelligence is the intelligence with which we address and solve problems of meaning and value, the intelligences with which we can place our actions and our lives in a wider, richer, meaning-giving context, the intelligence with which we can assess that one course of action or one life-path is more meaningful than another. SQ is the necessary foundation for the effective functioning of both IQ and EQ. It is our ultimate intelligence.
~Danah Zohar & Dr. Ian Marshall, Connecting with our Spiritual Intelligence
It differs from IQ & EQ and is referred to as the ‘soul’s intelligence’. It allows us to integrate the intrapersonal and the interpersonal as we find the relational connection with others and our world as a whole.
Indications of highly developed SQ are:
- Ability to face and use both pain and suffering
- Being inspired by vision & values
- Reluctance to cause unnecessary harm
- Easily sees connections
- Curious and innately asking “why” and “what if”
- Unconventional: Thinks outside the box and colors outside the lines
Lots to discuss on this!
